About

Kings Regional Vision is the 2026 Regional Transportation Plan/Sustainable Communities Strategy (RTP/SCS), a collective effort to improve the quality of life in Kings County by expanding transportation and housing choices. It takes an overall look at how to grow as a region over time in a way that uses resources efficiently, protects existing communities, conserves farmland and open space, and supports our local economy.

Who is Leading the Development?

The RTP/SCS development is being led by the Kings County Association of Governments (KCAG), which is the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the region. KCAG is responsible for setting transportation policy and priorities for Kings County and documenting how transportation funds will be spent over the 20-year planning horizon. The ultimate RTP and SCS will make it possible for our region to program Federal and State funding for local transportation projects and programs.

Why is the RTP being Prepared?

The Federal government requires that Metropolitan Planning Organizations such as KCAG, to develop a Regional Transportation Plan that reflects a twenty-year planning horizon.

The RTP must:
  • be fiscally constrained (project costs can be covered by anticipated transportation funding streams)
  • reflects current population, employment and travel projections as well as changes in local plans and regional transportation priorities.
  • Preparation of the RTP is required every four years to ensure eligibility for various transportation improvement funding programs.
